Oh I hear you. I have a neighbor who's retired from Bayer who sprays Round-Up not only on his property but alongside the road in the ditches, where the water percolates into our common water table for our wells and drinking water. I asked him to please not do that and explained that it's a carcinogen. You would think he might have a clue about that. He said, "well if you can find something better tell me," so I told him about vinegar, salt and dish soap, but he continues. He killed off all of his bees and has no clue about the connection.

Shortly after the publication of a peer reviewed research paper from Spain about the toxicity of glyphosate in the groundwater table, I started a petition to ban roundup and other glyphosate containing "weed killers" on "MoveOn". The study was included in the petition. When it reached about 1K signers, things changed. Insults and propaganda came into the discussion. It was so bad, that I withdrew the petition. Another one three years later received enough signatures to become talk of the day. As a consequence to this, Hawai'ian pharmers came up with a brand letter, urging the legislative to not ban glyphosate, as it would create big losses for pharmers to pursue alternatives to glyphosate. I have been using vinegar forever - opposite a young Hawai'ian teacher that used a 150gal roundup tanker to keep his yard in a state of people stopping and admiring the Buckingham Palace like garden in the Hawai'ian Rainforest of upper Puna. At times I was convinced that he waited for the application until the wind would all blow it over into our mostly windowless house. The stench was disgusting.
Roadsides were doused - not sprayed - with roundup and its later substitute that also contained high levels of glyphosate. That was the time when signs popped up at properties reading "NO SPRAY ZONE". It may sound harsh, but I hope that all of the users and proponents of glyphosate ended up with a sickness caused by it. There were way too many that got sick from it - fighting its use tooth and nail. I urge everybody to re/visit the Spanish study about glyphosate health effects in the population. The publication of study was of course suppressed by Monsatan and its agents.
(Edit: like to add that the petition was started on Hawai'i Island)
Look at all those people living out in the forests in New Brunswick who developed serious neurological diseases as a result of the forestry companies aerial spraying their forests with glyphosate in order to kill off the unwanted trees. Many of them had to abandon their cabins which they had hand built and move into towns or cities as a result.
New Brunswick faces significant controversy over heavy glyphosate use, primarily in forestry, linked to a potential, mysterious neurological syndrome, biodiversity loss (affecting birds, fish, insects), and human health concerns (probable carcinogen status by WHO & links to cancers/brain issues). Activists, scientists, and residents push for bans, citing high exposure levels in affected patients and environmental damage, while the industry claims regulatory compliance, creating ongoing public debate over regulations, public health, and forestry practices, with Quebec banning it in public forests years prior.
Key Issues & Concerns:
Neurological Syndrome: A cluster of patients in NB shows symptoms like memory loss, spasms, and cognitive decline, with tests revealing high glyphosate levels, leading to theories it's linked to an environmental toxin.
Carcinogen Classification: The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified glyphosate as a "probable carcinogen," linking it to non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a concern echoed by local health advocates.
Environmental Impact: Widespread spraying (NB uses more than most provinces) is blamed for harming birds, insects, fish, and overall forest biodiversity, impacting food webs and water quality, despite industry compliance claims.
Public & Political Debate: Over 35,000 residents signed petitions to end spraying; activists point to Quebec's ban as a successful alternative, demanding action against what they see as outdated, citizen-funded practices.
The Controversy:
Health & Science: Doctors like Dr. Alier Marrero found high glyphosate in patients with neurological issues, suggesting a toxic link, while Health Canada maintains safety under label directions.
Government Response: Investigations into the neurological cases faced abrupt halts, sparking accusations of corporate influence over public health, reports BBC.
Industry Stance: Forest NB argues glyphosate use is regulated and safe, contrasting with activist claims about risks to health and environment.
What's Happening Now:
Continued activism by groups like the Conservation Council of NB (CCNB) and Stop Spraying NB pushes for bans, new forestry models, and investigations into the health crisis.
Incredible breakdown of the Monsanto Papers and regulatory capture. The detail about Jess Rowland blocking ATSDR reviews is exactly the kind of institutional betrayal that makes ecocide systemic rather than accidental. I ran into similar resistance trying to get local municipalities to stop roadside spraying a couple years back, the 'fire risk' excuse came up then too even though the real issue was just laziness about maintainance. What's wild is how the 'it's just vegetation control' framing obscures the cascade effects on pollinators and soil microbiomes that take decades to rebuild.
Your letter is well thought-out, thorough, and beautifully written. I had an encounter with a neighbor once over his use of Roundup. He shrugged and kept on spraying. I am keeping this response letter as a great template for if I have the misfortune to encounter another neighbor doing this anywhere near my property, or as a resource if I just need to educate the uninformed. And I'm very sorry that you have to live downhill from someone doing this. I would be beside myself with anger and frustration.
“From the Earthfood side of the fence, we work only nitrifying living soil microbes as organisms drawn from ancient soil systems that evolved long before chemicals, inputs, or control regimes existed. When these microbes are present and active, they rebuild what real soil looks like: deep, fertile, chocolate-brown, living structure.
In that environment, something interesting happens - weeds largely stop taking hold.
Not because they’re killed, but because they’re no longer needed.
Weeds are not villains. They are first responders. Their role is to colonise dead or collapsing soil, pull up minerals, feed microbes as they die back, and hold ground together so it doesn’t blow or wash away. They arrive where biology has collapsed and nutrients are locked up. When the soil comes back to life, their job is done.
Living soil self-regulates. It doesn’t need chemical force. In fact, the use of these chemicals produce MORE WEEDS to get rid of!!!!
What concerns us most about glyphosate isn’t just toxicity but it’s that it interrupts soil intelligence itself. It removes the visible symptom (weeds) while further weakening the biological system that was trying to heal.
We see, again and again, that when soil biology is restored, farmers and gardeners don’t fight weeds, they outgrow them.
I thought this might be a useful layer to complement your work, whether now or later. No obligation to use it, just shared in the spirit of restoring understanding beneath the surface.

Large deposits of dead bees in the pool. I don’t mind catching one here and there in the water. But yesterday they were noticeably going for water. I collected over 30.

But if he is truly worries, why not put goats in there with a portable Premier 1 solar hot fence and allow those little rascals to eat down his weeds? Very good, fact-filled article! What bugs me, is that your neighbor was cordial and agreeable when you politely brought to his attention (in person) the dangers of his actions. Then later, decided his way was still the best way.
This, is just part and parcel of how very few people today can take correction in any way. No matter how true the message, or how respectful it's being given, it's almost always viewed as a put-down, or condescension by the one receiving it. It should be obvious to even the most dim-witted amongst us, that Glyphosate is a toxin that we don't need and should be banned but probably never will be, unfortunately.
Incidentally, CA wines (crops) have been documented to have been treated with 64 pesticides and herbicides. Including Glyphosate. So, stay away from them. And, all vegetable oils!
I think anything is probably better than California wines at this point. My friend works in the wine industry out here and he says it’s really disgusting.
You're welcome! Unfortunately, yes. As far as I know, europe does not use Glyphosate. So, you have a lot of good wines to choose from there. Also, I know that places like Argentina make good wines without Glyphosate (to my knowledge) as well!
To all who read this post and are rightly concerned about this " Corporate Negligence" a suggestion. The suggestion will be below this dated research. Being an 80 year old Forensic Historical Correlative analyst, bth Military & Civilian, this research I post here, needs ponderance for the connection to many other questions we have as a society.
- 1961 - Sir Julian Huxley creates the “World Wildlife fund” to coincide with his overt
position on “Humanism”, “Globalism” coupled with “Eugenics” as the tree legged stool
noted in “Psychopolitics”. Humanism, considers animal species equal or above man.
1963 - Kennedy is Assassinated. This invented Term: “Conspiracy Theory”- Began here
after inferior Warren Report outing. The clumsy and inaccurate Report, led to many Forensic
Historical Analysts that the CIA, was involved. ( the 62 year non-answer is the answer ).
1965 - Ghosts in the Machine: by U.S. Army-psyop-division known as “mindwar”
The ultimate goal of MindWar is to make people willingly do what they’re supposed to do,
while not realizing they’ve been pushed towards that decision at every step of the way.
“For the mind to believe in its own decisions, it must feel that it made those decisions without
coercion. Coercive measures used by the operative, consequently, must not be
detectable by ordinary means. There is no need to resort to mind-weakening drugs such as
those explored by the CIA; in fact the exposure of a single such method would do
unacceptable damage to MindWar’s reputation for truth.”

The conclusion that must be resolved, and only will with society understanding WE own this house, and have been continuously abused by the Communitarians in our midst. While this material appears off topic, my wife lost the prior husband to Agent Orange.

administrative positions. This in concert with the RIIA of Great Britain. The Dumbarton Oaks,
story is only partly true. This action was handled by Alger Hiss of prior note, who was later
imprisoned as a Soviet spy and who had been Roosevelts right hand man. Alger Hiss, Soviet
spy, was known to Roosevelt who casually dismissed the notification. Hiss was at both Tehran

I leave you with Cicero: “A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”
– Marcus Tullius Cicero
Bless all, know the Founding Documents were for the individual, not the Communitarian theory that has crept in, as Cicero so aptly notes
Good for you Kat for calling it out. This has been going on a long time. If you understand the history of glyphosate and where it comes from. It was created by Monsanto which merged with Bayer but the company was actually called IG Farben in Germany who produced chemical weapons for the war and Nazis. Guess who was involved with this company - George Soros. 100% poison and kills life and causes cancer and other terrible diseases. Will this madness ever stop?
OMG! I don't know what to say... So sorry that you have a brainwashed neighbor like that. He is very obviously misinformed. There are other ways of preventing 🔥. The one I would use is removing any dead trees and branches and mowing any tall grass when needed. Raking up dead leaves is part of it. If he has Internet (and I'm sure he probably does) he should watch some of the YouTube videos about Dr. Don M. Huber and his research with the detrimental cumulative effects of that chemical. That idiot "governor" obviously is part of the problem. Yes, I have an idiot governor too! 😡 (Wanna trade?) Do to the very strong chelating nature of Glyphosate 99% of that chemical will stay on your neighbor's land. That's about the only "good" thing I can say at the present time about that. Since it is systemic in the plants a large portion of what was sprayed on your neighbor's land is now deep in his own soil. What is deep in his soil will stay there. ...and contaminate his soil, not yours. The only way (at this point in time) that you would be affected now is that if there was a very heavy rain and some of the soil was washed down onto your land. Even so the amount of chemical that would end up on your land would be small in comparison to what your neighbor has. I'm not saying that I'd be happy with your situation, but your neighbor has basically shot himself in the head with those chemicals.
After he sprayed his property, we had heavy downpour for one week.
That’s what kills me.
He sprayed around December 14. The entire week of Christmas was heavy rain. It was so wet and windy that we lost another large pine tree. The creek (ditch) was flowing heavily.
A lovely comment and tip from a friend!

They are also spraying glyphosate to “protect us from fire risk.” So, so fucking stupid.

Worked with DDT and polio, they can copy that playbook!

– Marcus Tullius Cicero
Bless all, know the Founding Documents were for the individual, not the Communitarian theory that has crept in, as Cicero so aptly notes
Bless you Mellowkat.
Well said!!
Glyphosate is yummy and this guy drinks it all the time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbfJ4VwHIqw
Ouch! I'd be ticked off too.
